"Artificial Intelligence" and Education in the NFLS

On October 27th, AI experts, education experts, primary and secondary school principals, and classroom teachers, etc. from all over the country gathered in Xi'an to focus on AI education and intelligent education development in primary and secondary schools nationwide. As the executive chairman of the 2019 National Primary and Secondary School Artificial Intelligence Education Conference, Principal Zou Zheng gave an important speech and report.

Principal Zou Zheng pointed out that the "New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan" promulgated by the State Council in July 2017 has proposed to set up AI-related courses in the primary and secondary schools and to carry out intelligent campus development. At the International Artificial Intelligence and Education Conference held in Beijing from May 16 to 18 this year, Minister Chen Baosheng of the Ministry of Education also emphasized the need to set up AI-related courses in primary and secondary schools to promote universal education. The "China Intelligent Education Development Program" is also in the preparation process. Many provinces and cities have taken active actions to launch pilot projects of artificial intelligence education in primary and secondary schools. With the coming of intelligent society, new educational ideas, educational concepts, and science and technology will continue to promote the development of education.

The booming of STEAM education is getting started, and AI education has come already. Whether as a principal or as a frontline educator, we must not ignore or follow the trend blindly. We should keep pace with the times, think rationally, and adjust approaches according to the school conditions. The artificial intelligence education in primary and secondary schools should still be aimed at cultivating people with morality.

In the report on "Development and Implementation of AI-Based Borderless Classrooms", Principal Zou introduced the research and practice of AI-based borderless classrooms for independent learning in our school.

AI can help to make it possible to teach without the limitation of time, space and border

The You Talk smart recitation app, designed by the school English teaching and research team and the information team, is used for recitation. Through the software platform, it provides the initial evaluation of English recitation and the score of the pronunciation for references. It saves all data of students' learning process, generates learning analysis, and provides formative assessment.

AI can help to make it possible to teach without the limitation of time, space and border

The information team online platform for Information science competition develops a learning community for teachers and students in four aspects of "teaching", "learning", "practicing" and "competing". Using vector-based video to realize teaching according to student's aptitude. Currently, the platform has accumulated 8,000 questions and 100 fundamental theories. Based on Topological sorting, intelligent matching, students can break through like playing games. The reporting program is based on big data analysis, which provides students real-time feedback. The platform system keeps tracking of a student's learning process and provides accurate analysis. It encourages practices by the way of competition. The questions for competitions can be submitted by teachers or students; at the same time, a number of elite schools can compete with each other and share their resources.

Study on the intelligent evaluation of middle school students' writing

In addition, the Chinese and Information teams of our school are conducting a study on intelligent evaluation of middle school students' writing. It is to test the consistency between AI evaluation and teacher evaluation, aiming to understand the effectiveness of AI evaluation, and propose corresponding optimization strategies and implementation plans. During the study, both teams will explore an effective evaluation model by complementarily integrating both AI evaluation and teacher evaluation and finally to achieve the goal of increasing students' writing interest and improving their writing skills.

In the future, our school will gradually carry out AI education and teaching research in multiple subjects. The research on the practice of AI-based borderless classrooms for self-learning is to integrate AI technology to assist teaching and learning, provide an independent learning platform and guide for students' self-learning, increase the self-learning motivation, and develop independent learning ability.

The International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education was held on May 16th, 2019. General Secretary Xi pointed out at the conference that artificial intelligence is an important driving force for leading a new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation. It is profoundly changing the way people produce, live and learn, promoting the development of the society and welcoming the intelligent era of human-computer collaboration, cross-border integration, and co-creation and sharing. The important mission of education is to keep track of the development of global artificial intelligence, identify the breakthrough and main direction, and cultivate a large number of high-end AI talents with innovation ability and team working spirit.

In the future, our school will actively carry out AI education and teaching research, develop relevant curriculums for artificial intelligence, accelerate the integration of various subjects with artificial intelligence technology. When facing challenges, we will uphold our founding principles and forge ahead.
