Jiangsu Education Science Project: Intergrowth of Reading and Writing in On-line Junior High Chinese Teaching

To further improve Junior High Chinese teaching on the intergrowth of reading and writing and deepen the research, Nanjing Research Institute of Education Science and NFLS organized the seminar about the Jiangsu Education Science Project: Intergrowth of Reading and Writing in On-line Junior High Chinese Teaching.
On the afternoon of May 11th, over 100 teachers from all over the city gathered in the theater of Building E2 in NFLS library for the seminar. 
Director Yaohui of Nanjing Research Institute of Education Science hosted the opening, and Director General Xiao Linyuan addressed the meeting. First of all Director Xiao introduced the purpose of the event, recommended the new method and research findings to the teachers, and praised teacher Liu Yongmei’s work on the intergrowth of reading and writing in on-line Junior High Chinese teaching, the project of Jiangsu Education Science led by her. Director Xiao also emphasized that the process of research was what we valued and that we should try to find object of study in teaching, spend time doing research on the object so as to develop teaching and education and research should be done by solid work.
Teacher Liu Yongmei introduced the current situation of her research project: “intergrowth of reading and writing in on-line Junior High Chinese teaching”. She presented the purpose, content, method, team and findings of the research. And the fruitful findings were admired by the teachers in the meeting.
2 report classes came after the opening. Teacher Liu Yongmei taught a refreshing video and watching and writing class. First Miss Liu and the students looked back on the main points of writing they learned before and played a warm-hearted video related to “shoes”. She guided the students to explore the features of the given topic and let them make sure about the perspective and requirement of narration. Then they started to comment on writings from how to make the narration sound like a story, how to find and sublime the theme and improve it to another level. They thought and talked actively and further experienced and identified the skills of narrative writing with the teacher’s instruction and summary.
Then Teacher Liu Fei taught a special research class of Poem Appreciation in QQ Group. Teacher Liu encouraged the students to find different versions of “The Red Cliff” in different dialects, and invited a student to read it in Nanjing dialect feel the phonetic features of the writing. Then Liu presented the materials the students found and the discussion they had in QQ group. In the part of “understanding feelings”, Liu asked “in your opinion, what did the author think of Zhou Yu” and displayed the introduction of the author Du Mu and his comment on Zhou Yu. The students studied the ancient poem with great interests by interaction, observation and remarks and understood the feelings expressed by the poem. Lastly Teacher Liu summarized the basic ways of poetry appreciation with the help of QQ Group and class discussion.
NFLS teacher Xia Baonian commented on the 2 classes. He spoke highly of the 2 teachers’ reform and results of Junior High Chinese teaching with the application of internet in the background of current development of internet and education reform. Teacher Xia used 3 words “resonance, intergrowth and regeneration” to illustrate the relationship of teachers and students, students and students, and they two with the subject, and emphasized that we should teach and reform Chinese teaching from the perspective of the students’ long-term development.
Ding Weijun, Master Teacher of Jiangsu gave a mini lecture called “Fun with Wechat: Invite Reading and Writing into Communication Context”. Teacher Ding introduced the ways to lead the students to reform Chinese learning: Wechat writing, recommending classics, reading classics together, case writing commenting, sharing and interacting in wechat, book editing and pushing things in friend circle and so on, which would hopefully promote the intergrowth of reading and writing and help the students to turn their reading and writing into a open event, to draw their attention from themselves to others and to help them from waiting to taking initiative.
In the last section of communication, Master Teacher Wang Yimin of Jiangsu spoke about his thoughts about the meeting. He said internet created more conditions for study which might improve the efficiency of study and creativity and find more possibilities for the development of both teachers and students. We should try to combine technology and teaching and more importantly to encourage and wake up which was the core of education. Master Teacher Liu Enqiao of Jiangsu said there could always be resources only if we cared enough; teachers’ research work must be based on personal teaching; young teachers should have the sense of scientific research and make use of current conditions.
The seminar lasted for the whole afternoon. Its rich content, vivid form, the introduction, classes, comments and mini lecture and interaction, all served well to truly present the effective exploration and reform of Chinese teaching with the application of internet. The teachers found that a seminar like this was new in its form, and was quite helpful and inspiring for teaching and research.
