Let Love Fly and Light up the Future---Report on the Second Charity Walk Events and Charity Activities for the Heliu Center School by NFLS Ancient City Wall Culture Club
We can’t forget the history of Nanjing and we often trace it back to the past. Time flies and we will never forget why we started.—Inscription
On June 27, 2019, 16 students from the Nanjing Foreign Language School Ancient City Wall Culture Club represented the 415 students in the 7th grade and went to the Liushan Center School in Hanshan County, Maanshan City to take part in the charity activity themed "Let Love Fly and Light up the Future". The activity was strongly supported by the Maanshan Municipal Youth League Committee, Nanjing Qingfeng Volunteer Service Center and Heliu Center School. The Care and Protection Project for the left-behind children in rural areas titled "Let Love Warm Children" helps the poor so that more left-behind children dare to dream, dare to chase dreams and work hard to realize their dreams. The event took more than two months from planning to completion. More than 400 students from the 7th grade in NFLS and many caring parents actively participated in the event. The event was successfully completed.
Xu Renqi, a student from the 7th grade in Nanjing Foreign Languages School, the founder of NFLS Ancient City Wall Culture Club, spoke at the Heliu Center School.
“Dear teachers, parents, and students from Heliu Center School, good afternoon! I am Xu Renqi, the founder of NFLS Ancient City Wall Culture Club. Our club is a legal student association approved by the Nanjing Foreign Languages School Student Office. The club's mission is to “protect the city walls and inherit the culture”.
This time, our club and Nanjing Qingfeng Volunteer Service Center built a love bookstore in Heliu Central Primary School to meet the wishes of some students. I am very happy.
For this occasion, the club organized a series of donation activities, which received strong support from almost all the students in the 7th grade and their parents. Just yesterday afternoon, in the charity walk event themed “one step, one love”, 415 students walked on the city wall for two hours in the scorching sun without fear of the heat, because their hearts, like mine, were filled with love for Heliu Central Primary School.
Thank you very much to the Maanshan League Committee and Heliu Central Primary School for giving us this opportunity to meet you here and work together for the wish of "sharing books under the same blue sky". Thank you very much to the Qingfeng Volunteer Service Center for your guidance, help and support to the club activities, so that the activities can proceed smoothly and achieve good results.
Today, my classmates and I came here for the first time with the wishes and love of more than 400 students in the 7th grade. I believe that we will continue to grow up hand in hand with the students of Heliu Central Primary School.
Behind this speech, members of the Ancient City Wall Culture Club and their parents who silently support them have worked together for countless days and nights.
On June 18, all the students in the school were preparing for the exam at the end of the term. Members and parents of the Ancient City Wall Culture Club started to take actions in order to have the event as scheduled. In order to facilitate the donation of books for the students in the 7th grade, several enthusiastic parents of volunteers came to the left side of our school gate early, collected the donated books brought by students, and then moved them to the teaching building of South Post Campus, a storage site provided by the parents of Yan Chaowen, a member of the club. Receiving, sorting and moving books... Everything contains the expectation and deep concern of the students for the left-behind children in Heliu Central School.
On the afternoon of June 26, after months of deliberation, NFLS Ancient City Wall Culture Club organized 415 students in the 7th grade to step on the Ming City Wall again in the scorching sun and take part in the charity walk event themed "One Step, One love" .The students converted the steps into donations for "Love Bookstore", "Reading Room", donation of stationery and sports equipment to primary schools in remote and poverty-stricken areas. Nowadays, pupils express their love for the left-behind children in the countryside.
This time the wall seems to be different from the past. It carries our heavier pace and deeper love...
The members of the Young Eagle Holiday Team also took part in the event themed “protecting the city walls and inheriting culture” for the 70th anniversary of the National Day, to feel the earth-shaking changes in Nanjing, and to love our motherland and love our hometown of Nanjing.
About Nanjing, a city with a long history of ten dynasties, maybe the older generation of revolutionaries have more voice than us. Their life time is closely related to this city. We invite Professor Wang Xulin, the editor who worked in Jiangsu Education Press, to tell us the stories of their pursuing dreams and continuing struggle for us. While walking on the city wall, Professor Wang was talking about the earth-shaking changes in the 70 years, with his eyes full of affection.
Several foreign friends also came to take part in the charity walk event, to feel the charm of the city wall of Naning, and enhance their love for the famous historical and cultural city.
Overlooking more than 400 people, walking on the wall, strong and solid walls nicely shaded with tall trees, the middle of which are the students' vibrant dreams.
At 8 o'clock on the morning of June 27, 16 student representatives who sent donation to the Heliu Center School came to the teaching building of South Post Lock Gold Campus and began to get busy. The students at the scene have a clear division of labor, and began to organize books and caring materials. Some of them are stamping the "Ancient City Wall Love Bookstore" on the books, some are responsible for packing boxes, and others are responsible for caring stickers. The whole work arrangement is orderly. The caring donation include some life and study supplies and sports equipment, and the most important ones are books donated by the students in the 7th grade. The 16 students at the scene spent a few hours working on them, finally tens of thousands of books and hundreds of school supplies were packed into dozens of boxes, and then were lifted on to the buses to be transported to the Heliu Center School more than 100 kilometers away.
After three hours of bumps, the students finally arrived at their destination. They saw the Heliu Center School on the other side of the river, but a height-limit sign on the bridge blocked the last 2 kilometers of our bus journey. We were forced to stop at the roadside. We contacted a small pickup truck. We re-loaded the dozens of boxes of materials and books on the small pickup truck, and then walked across the bridge to the Heliu Center School. The sun at noon was shining like fire, but the students walked steadily and strode towards the Heliu Center School.
The teachers of the Heliu Center School have already been waiting for us outside long and then give us a warm welcome, and we students all shouted out with one voice: "Here we are! Here we are!" It has been imagined countless times that the primary school campus, primary school teachers, primary school students finally appeared in front of the students. The Heliu Center School, which has been lingered in the minds of students for several months, has finally arrived.
The teachers from Nanjing Qingfeng Volunteer Service Center and Heliu Center School arranged for the student representatives of the school and 16 students of the Ancient City Wall Club to carry out the activities named “the Young Pioneers in Urban and Rural Areas Hand in Hand”. We talk about “Building Dreams” in pairs and exchange learning methods and experience, exchange our dreams. These children, who were relatively blocked in remote and poor areas, have broadened their horizons in their exchanges with 16 representatives of the Ancient City Wall Club, and also found a broader and more yearning stage. Under the inspiration of the students, the children generally expressed their desire and aspiration to go forward, go out of the countryside and enter the ideal university. Some children also made the vow to "enter Harvard". The students felt their responsibility and mission, and felt the infinite possibilities of the future of the motherland...
Then, the school organized a donation ceremony in the playground. The Ancient City Wall Culture Club donated a total of 1,500 books for the establishment of the “Love Bookstore” at the Heliu Center School, fulfilling the children's reading dream and fulfilling our club's wish of "sharing books under the same blue sky". The club sent 100 sets of stationery, 25 schoolbags, and 170 kinds of sports equipment such as basketball, football, table tennis, and skipping ropes to the poor students and more than 40 left-behind children to help them realize their dreams.
Looking back on these days and nights in the past few months, I have thousands of thoughts, "Let Love Fly and Light up the future", the charity walk events, with the unremitting efforts of more than 400 students and parents in the 7th grade in Nanjing Foreign Language School, and with the strong support of Maanshan Youth League Committee and Nanjing Qingfeng Volunteer Service Center, the events have been successful.
I have created such a club that gathers the fans of the Ancient City Walls in NFLS and have a deep exploration of the city wall culture for one year. Now, with the help of the strong strength of the city wall, we have planted the inheritance of culture to a place where it is more needed, and let love fly farther away, so that every child under the same blue sky can light up their future...
