Boy: In this cold season, what brings us warmth, besides thick and heavy clothes, there is technology -- air conditioning! Today is the 142nd anniversary of the birth of the father of air conditioning, the inventor of modern air conditioning systems, the American engineer Willis Kelley. Today, we also greet the 32 Nanjing Foreign Language School Science & Technology Festival!

Girl: What is technology? Science and technology are everywhere, they have been dormant in the flow of time, in the course of five thousand years of China’s history. Every creation of the ancestors, every invention, condensed wisdom and technology.

Boy: Again, we talk about air conditioning, do you know what Gree air conditioning advertising slogan is? Yes, “Gree, master the core technology”, Gree, the air-conditioning which maters the core technology, becomes the only "world famous brand" products in Chinese air conditioning industry. Science and technology, help the development of enterprises and change our lives, promote social progress as well!

Girl: So the Science and Technology Festival in NFLS also provides a stage for students to experience and even practice science and technology. In this Science and Technology Festival, the students in different grades can participate in different activities.

Boy: Tang Junyang, a sophomore in senior high, took part in the National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition this summer and did great achievement. Let us warmly welcome Tang Junyang to share his experiences and feelings of participating in the Science and Technology Innovation Competition.

Dear teachers and friends, good morning!

I am Tang Junyang from Class 3, senior Grade 2. I would like to share with you my experience and feelings of participating in Kechuang Practice and Kechuang Competition.

I was very keen on observation and thinking, curious about robots, and a fan of science fiction. Last year, under the guidance of three teachers of the physics group and the general technology group, I used what I learned to study the intelligent mobile device project, and began to make a physical model by myself. The model was revised and improved many times and became what it is now. The device I studied is to use the principle of ultrasonic, automatic positioning to automatically follow the master, so our hands will be free and improve our work and life efficiency. The experience of Kechuang research practice has enabled me to master the basic ideas and methods of scientific research, and help me deeply understand the hardships, learn to persist, and cultivate my self-confidence.During this period, the school recommended  me to participate in science and technology innovation competitions at all levels, from district competitions to city competitions, provincial competitions and final national competitions. I made a few achievements and spent a great deal of spare time, which was indeed not easy, but I accumulated certain experience in scientific research, practice and competition participation. I would like to thank the school and my teachers, thank you for your help and guidance.

In this summer vacation, I had the honor to participate in the 33th National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition. More than 500 contestants from primary and secondary schools all over the country, as well as more than 300 foreign contestants from more than 50 countries and regions, including the United States, Germany and France,etc participated in the contest. The participants from all over the world have displayed 358 scientific and technological innovation projects for young people in various fields. It showed the youth vitality and love of science and technology innovation among teenagers from different countries.

I deeply feel that innovation comes from life, and then put it into practice to make our life more convenient and make our work more efficient. My work comes from my pulling suitcases while traveling and pushing shopping carts while shopping. For example, the contest had a project on “How to Manage the Shared Bicycles and Public Bicycle in Cities”. The sharing bikes bring convenience to our travel and it is a green and low-carbon transportation mode. But as the number of shared bikes expands rapidly, the disorderly parking of vehicles poses challenges to urban management. So a classmate carried on the inquiry on the above questions. Through the on-the-spot investigation, the comparing of storage ability of different bicycle storage modes, he put forward the design mode of fixed parking station to facilitate the management. He designed triangular and parallelogram parking spaces to improve the efficiency of bicycle storage in the electronic fence. These save the space occupied by bikes.

I have found that, from a whimsical to a scientific creation, it often involves the use of diversified, cross-disciplinary knowledge. For example, to make an automatic following suitcase, we need to know the physical knowledge such as ultrasonic characteristics, in order to improve the positioning and the accuracy in following, we need to use mathematical knowledge to optimize, and the appearance of the suitcase needs to take into account as a part of aesthetics. Multidisciplinary cross-cutting can enhance the level of innovation. Our school attaches great importance to our innovative research and practice activities, setting up various stem elective courses, such as physics, chemistry, etc., launching the annual science and technology festival, setting up specialized laboratories, creating an atmosphere of science creation, and providing us with science creation. Opportunities and communication platforms for practice are provided to us. We should make good use of these superior resources and conditions, and strive to learn cultural knowledge and lay a solid foundation for scientific and technological innovation.

Finally, I want to say that practice and innovation are one of the best ways to learn knowledge. It can teach us a lot of things we can't learn from books, and cultivate our innovative thinking, broaden our horizons, and develop a scientific and rigorous style of study and research, improve the ability of scientific research. I hope there are more students who love scientific and technological innovation, who can join in scientific and technological innovation and scientific research study, and have innovation as a companion, carry forward the spirit of innovation, improve the ability to practice, do not forget the initial mind, and forge ahead! There are countless similar examples in the history of human development, which tell us that from the use of prehistoric neolithic tools to the application of artificial intelligence today, every progress in human life has brought together the power of science. Every major achievement of contemporary social civilization flashes with the light of science and technology. These human inventions came from life, which changed life and created splendor achievements.

Einstein said, "fantasizing about all the great things you are able to accomplish can make your life full of enthusiasm." Let your imagination gallop and create whatever you want. "

Dear students, the STEM series courses offered by our school have provided us with rich soil for creating seeds, and we have already built laboratories in physics, chemistry, biology, general technology, etc., which provide the necessary conditions for students' creative activities and STEM study. For example, all kinds of experimental instruments, 3D printing equipment, small data machine tools, and so on, as long as the students have the demand, the school will provide the related services as far as possible. We have also established friendly cooperative relations with colleges and universities and some high-tech enterprises so the universities and off-campus enterprises will help people turn their ideas into real works.

In the selective course of STEM physics and engineering design I I opened last year, one day,outside the classroom, the haze was terrible, seriously polluted, the students dared not open the window, as the class went on, the classroom was very stuffy, everybody felt hard to breathe. In the elective course, some students suggested that the school should install air purifiers in each of our classrooms, so that everyone could breathe in clean and fresh air in the classroom. At this time, immediately another student put forward a different view, the air purifier can only purify the air in the confined space, our classroom has 60 students, if we closed the windows for a long time to purify the air, the classroom would be anoxia and everyone would feel stuffy. Well,is there any good way to solve this problem? I took the opportunity to ask questions. Can installing fresh air system, similar to the type of central air conditioning,in the classroom, which could both supply fresh air, and clean the air. But the biggest problem with the fresh air system was the frequent need to replace filter nets and activated carbon, which were expensive, and it can not guarantee the bactericidal effect,the removal of fungal bacteria in the classroom was defective. Can the existing fresh air system be improved? I hope you can use your brain in this direction.

In the next class, Si Chen found that there was a hot selling "nano-formaldehyde removal spray", which was said to be able to remove formaldehyde and other organic pollutants on the desk. Therefore, we began to put our focus on the direction of liquid sterilization and dust removal. When we looked at a lot of data, we found that nano-fluids that received ultraviolet radiation with a wavelength less than 385nm decompose organic compounds such as formaldehyde, while silver nanorods were effective in killing bacteria and fungi. We began to explore the preparation of nano-fluids and photocatalytic and bactericidal experiments, we contacted Teacher Yang Liu from the Southeast University of China to provide us with expertise in answering questions. First of all, we had a very simple test equipment to carry out two pre-tests. It is concluded that nano-fluid not only had excellent bactericidal effect, but also could be used to regenerate the fresh air system more efficiently and save more energy for the system. Then we made a preliminary prototype test equipment on the contact manufacturers, carried out a number of precise experiments. After analyzing the data, we found that the fungal killing rate was 100%, the bacterial killing rate was 100%, the formaldehyde removal rate was 100%. It showed that the experimental device completely met the design requirements, and the experiment achieved great success. Moreover, the cost of silver nano-fluids was very low. At present, the design is applied for a patent.

In recent years, in the international competition for young physicists, the S.T. Yau science competition, the national pioneering competition, the youth pioneering competition, tomorrow's small scientists and other scientific and technological competitions, NFLS students have successfully applied for a number of patents. These achievements represent our NFLS stem education has achieved a stage of achievement on the way forward.

Dear students, the school has created many conditions and built many platforms for your scientific and technological innovation. The protagonists on these platforms are students. I hope the students will actively participate in the science and technology innovation activities, in the stem curriculum system. Choose the direction that you are interested in and study in depth.
